Salt Pig
This salt pig matches and compliment many of the other items available from Scipelei Pottery Homeware. As well as being very easy on the eye they are practical and safe for use in the dishwasher or microwave. Please take a look at other items in our Homeware range. If you have any questions about this salt pig or any other item please contact Nigel, who will be very happy to provide answers.
Handcrafted
Rutile slip is trailed around the salt pig before it is dipped in three variations of a satin glaze. This creates various landscape effects around the surface. Each salt pig is hand-thrown and fired to Stoneware temperatures, ensuring durability and is dishwasher/microwave proof.
All sizes are approximate and may vary slightly. There may be slight colour and pattern variations from the examples shown. This is due to the item being handmade and therefore unique. Specific sizes can be made to order but may not be exact due to clay shrinkage and the nature of the making process.
Delivery
Our preference is for you to visit the studio and pick up your purchase directly from us, however we understand that not everyone is able to do this – please see our delivery terms and conditions.
Every effort is made to maintain a stock of these items. However, due to fluctuating demand there may be times when a salt pig has to be made specially. If this is the case Nigel will contact you. Where they exist alternatives will be offered, a full refund, or information on when stock will be replenished. Please note, if no stock is available new stock can take 3 to 4 weeks to produce. All items are handcrafted and fired in Nigel’s own studio in Shepley, West Yorkshire.

Sonia LEUZZI –
I have had a hammered metal salt jar for the last 25 years which was still doing a great job, but I was a bit tired of it. So I surfed the Internet looking for inspiration, but I could not find anything to my liking. In the search bar I entered different keywords—jar, box, cellar, storage—hoping to find what I was looking for. Being Italian, was not aware of anything like a “pig” to store salt until I saw the picture of the one I then purchased from Nigel.
Nigel has been extremely caring throughout the whole process, always keen to answer any question or dispel any doubt. The salt pig (LOL) has just arrived, magnificently wrapped and protected—absolutely gorgeous! So solid and finely handcrafted, with no asperities of any kind, in a heavy yet vibrant shade of blue, nicely melting into the clay. I will surely revisit Nigel’s online shop in the future.
